TEDを見ていたら、リーダーシップのいい話を思い出して、改めて見たら、やっぱりいい話でした。勇気づけられます。

やり抜く力に感激していて、その他の主張も見ていたら、TEDの中で紹介されている動画を題材にして、ALL写真と動画だけでプレゼンしたのを思い出して、見てみました。

やっぱり、名作はいいですね。

一番最初にやる人という意味でのリーダーシップは過大評価されていて、フォロワーもリーダーシップの一形態だというのは斬新でした。

改めて見ても、共感しますね。会社なんかだと、ある局面ではリーダー、ある局面ではフォロワーということがよくあるので、うまく演じるもの大切だと思いました。

 So, ladies and gentlemen, at TED we talk a lot about leadership and how to make a movement.
TEDで私たちは リーダーシップや 社会をいかに動かすかという話をよくしますが

So let’s watch a movement happen, start to finish, in under three minutes and dissect some lessons from it.
これから たった3分の間に社会的な運動が起きる様を ご覧いただき そこから教訓を引き出そうと思います

First, of course you know, a leader needs the guts to stand out and be ridiculed.
最初にリーダーが勇気を持って立ち上がり 嘲笑される必要があります

But what he’s doing is so easy to follow.
でも彼の行動に続くのはすごく簡単です

So here’s his first follower with a crucial role;
ここで最初のフォロワー(追随者)が重要な役割を担っています

he’s going to show everyone else how to follow.
みんなに どう従えばいいか示すのです

Now, notice that the leader embraces him as an equal.
リーダーが彼を対等に扱うのを見てください

So, now it’s not about the leader anymore; it’s about them, plural.
今やリーダー1人ではありません

Now, there he is calling to his friends.
複数になったのです 友達に声をかけていますね

Now, if you notice that the first follower is actually an underestimated form of leadership in itself.
最初のフォロワーというのは 過小評価されていますが実はリーダーシップの一形態なのです

It takes guts to stand out like that.
こんな風に目立つだけでも勇気がいります

The first follower is what transforms a lone nut into a leader. (Laughter) (Applause)
最初のフォロワーの存在が 1人のバカを リーダーへと変えるのです (笑) (拍手)

And here comes a second follower.
2人目のフォロワーが現れました

Now it’s not a lone nut, it’s not two nuts —
今や1人のバカでも 2人のバカでもありません

three is a crowd, and a crowd is news.
3人というのは集団であり 集団というのはニュースになります

So a movement must be public.
だから運動が公のものとなります

It’s important to show not just to show the leader,
リーダーだけでなく フォロワーの姿が重要なのです

but the followers, because you find that new followers emulate the followers, not the leader.
新たなフォロワーたちは リーダーではなく フォロワーを真似るものだからです

Now, here come two more people, and immediately after, three more people.
さらに2人が加わり すぐ後に3人が加わりました

Now we’ve got momentum. This is the tipping point.
今や勢いが付いています 臨界点に達し

Now we’ve got a movement.
1つの運動になったのです

So, notice that, as more people join in, it’s less risky.
多くの人が加わるほど リスクは小さくなります

So those that were sitting on the fence before, now have no reason not to.
どうしようか決めかねていた人達も 今や加わらない理由はなくなりました

They won’t stand out, they won’t be ridiculed,
もう目立つことはありません 笑われることもありません

but they will be part of the in-crowd if they hurry. (Laughter)
急げばコア集団に入れるかも (笑)

So, over the next minute,
この後しばらくは

you’ll see all of those that prefer to stick with the crowd because eventually they would be ridiculed for not joining in.
みんな集団に入ろうとします加わらない方がかえって バカにされるからです

And that’s how you make a movement.
これが運動の起こし方です

But let’s recap some lessons from this.
教訓をおさらいしましょう

So first, if you are the type, like the shirtless dancing guy that is standing alone,
まず 彼のように１人裸で踊るタイプの人は

remember the importance of nurturing your first few followers as equals so it’s clearly about the movement, not you.
最初の何人かのフォロワーを 対等に扱う大切さを 覚えておいてください

Okay, but we might have missed the real lesson here.
肝心なのは自分ではなく運動だということです

The biggest lesson, if you noticed
でも もっと大きな教訓があります

— did you catch it?
お気づきになったでしょうか？

— is that leadership is over-glorified.
最大の教訓は リーダーシップが 過大評価されているということです

That, yes, it was the shirtless guy who was first,
確かにあの裸の男が最初でした

and he’ll get all the credit,
彼には功績があります

but it was really the first follower that transformed the lone nut into a leader.
でも1人のバカをリーダーに変えたのは 最初のフォロワーだったのです

So, as we’re told that we should all be leaders, that would be really ineffective.
全員がリーダーになるべきだと よく言いますが それは効果的ではありません

If you really care about starting a movement, have the courage to follow and show others how to follow.
本当に運動を起こそうと思うなら ついて行く勇気を持ち 他の人達にも その方法を示すことです

And when you find a lone nut doing something great,
スゴイことをしている孤独なバカを見つけたら

have the guts to be the first one to stand up and join in.
立ち上がって参加する 最初の人間となる勇気を持ってください
